Jim Byrne KA3WSX at Punxsutawney Groundhog Special Event 2010With great sadness, we report the passng of Jim Byrne KA3WSX of Troutvile, PA on Sunday, July 10, 2011. His wife passed away recently, and he experienced health problems for the past several months.

Jim served as President of the Quad-County Amateur Radio Club in the mid 1990s, and more recently as the Vice President of the Punxsutawney Area Amateur Radio Club. He was an avid VHF operator and also enjoyed building HF antennas, and operating. He was a driving force behind the Punxsutawney Groundhog Day Special Event.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville. No visitation or services are planned.

    This is Al KB3SVW sorry to hear about Jim KA3WSX.I did not know him well but Jim was my verry first contact on ham radio 2mtrs from Bobs home WA3R.I rember I was nerverous Jim made me feel right at home with a short rag chew about us both being mechanics and not to worry it will soon become 2nd nature.Thank you Jim

  • It’s with sadness to read about Jim’s passing. I used to talk with Jim quite a bit on the 39 repeater, sometimes about fixing the big trucks when I was in the garage business. As I was headed to Johnstown, I remember one time Jim talked me the whole way from Mahaffey to the cutoff on 36 as Carrolltown one Sunday and we had a great QSO. Jim was always up for a QSO and he knew my voice just by saying, “What’s up Jim”…..Ham radio enriches our lives by meeting men like Jim, but I’ll miss his voice when I travel back to Clearfield, so here’s my 73 OM, catch ya again sometime……..W3PRL
